That’s a nice boat!
Words you’ll hear often as you cruise along the canals and through the locks on Pendragon, now available for weekly holiday hire.
Pendragon sleeps six and has ample space and facilities for you, family and friends, to enjoy a self-catering holiday on one of Britain’s most fascinating canals, The Grand Union.
Recently refurbished, Pendragon is a wide-beam canal boat, 17.3m (57’) long and 3.1m (10’) wide. Unlike many boats, which are regarded as female, Pendragon is, as his name suggests, a masculine boat, and he boasts the following features:
- fully fitted kitchen and a large breakfast bar to seat six people
- bathroom with shower and fully flushing WC
- central heating and wood burner
- comfortable sofas
- subtle low level lighting
- wide screen projector, DVD and music system
- a range of both vintage and contemporary board games
A holiday on Pendragon gives you the opportunity to explore the capital, and the towns and villages as you approach them from the unique angle the canal provides. You can visit the pubs, restaurants and tea rooms along the towpath, work the locks, visit local attractions, or simply relax on-board watching movies, listening to music, playing board-games, or chatting over a nice meal with a glass of wine!
Whether you’re new to canal boating, or an experienced cruiser, full training will be given on all aspects of handling Pendragon, as well as canal etiquette. We will show you how to:
- cast off
- start and stop the engine
- pass safely through the locks
- turn the boat around
- moor up for the night
A copy of the Boater’s Handbook, as well as the Pendragon Handover Manual, will be emailed to you at the time of booking and will also be available on-board. You will also receive a map of the canal and the surrounding areas.
From our base on the Slough Arm of the Grand Union Canal, you can cruise to Little Venice, in central London, within a day and without passing through a lock! From there you can continue through the Maida Vale and Kings Cross Tunnels on the Regent’s Canal before heading towards Stratford, the Olympic Park and the River Lee.
Alternatively, you can head north through Uxbridge and out into the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, passing through the locks at Harefield and on towards the historic town of Berkhampstead.
Pendragon has one double bed in the main bedroom, two bunk beds in the cabin, and two single sofa-beds in the lounge, all supplied with clean bedlinen.
You have everything you need to make a truly memorable holiday, whether you decide to cruise through as many locks as you can, or moor up and visit local attractions, there’s always plenty to do on Pendragon.
